About the event

Back to Leyton Sixth Form College for the autumn term...

Join visiting artists from Compiler to help map the hidden Philley Brook river,  plus games design with Dave Darch.

Games design with Dave Darch

Join Dave our lead artist each month in the games design room for a relaxed session doing coding, animation and music. We have Rasberry Pi 5 kits to try out and Dave is also hoping you can help him develop his robotic orchestra project ready for an event in November.

Beneath Our Footsteps: We Are Philley Brook

Join digital art collective Compiler and equalities designer and researcher Natasha Trotman to explore the hidden Philley Brook river.

Did you know that there is a hidden river called Philley Brook that runs beneath the streets of Upper Walthamstow, Leytonstone and Leyton? Beneath Our Footsteps is a new project by digital art collective Compiler that invites local residents to contribute to a collaborative digital artwork inspired by the Philley Brook river.

This multi-media workshop, developed in collaboration with equalities designer and researcher Natasha Trotman, invites you to explore the blue and green realms of Philley Brook through a mixture of senses, materials and creative explorations. It will provide opportunities to (re)learn and bring into focus the overlooked and forgotten memories of the river and our shared connections.

Join us to explore the river and its smells, textures, temperatures, sounds and visuals. We will create sound recordings, digital images and objects in these mediums using 3D printed materials as well as sourced natural forms. No prior knowledge of Philley Brook or art making is required.

Your creations can be included in an interactive, collaborative artwork about the Philley Brook river to be exhibited in Leytonstone and online later this year.

The Beneath Our Footsteps project is made possible by the London Borough of Waltham Forest’s Make It Happen 2024 grants programme. Learn more about the project here!
